Permissions & Usage
This page explains what you’re allowed to do with Silent Partner Press books and materials, and when you need to ask first.
“Silent Partner Press” here includes all of our imprints: DreadAche, Kentwood & Kline Love Stories, Red Herring Run, Other Places Press, and Rustler’s Ridge Press.
If you’re ever unsure, email us at [permissions@silentpartnerpress.com]
Things you can do without asking us
You don’t need our permission for any of this, as long as you’re not selling our work or pretending it’s yours.
Reviews & recommendations
- Quote short passages from our books (a few paragraphs max) in:
- Reviews
- Blog posts
- Social media
- Booktube / BookTok / podcasts
- Use our cover images in reviews, reaction posts, TBRs, “books I loved” lists, etc.
- Screenshot our product pages for commentary or recommendation posts.
We want you to talk about the books. Just don’t repost entire chapters or the full text.
ARC & review copies
If you received an ARC (from us, Booksprout, or anyone else), you may:
- Post honest reviews on Amazon, Goodreads, your blog, socials, etc.
- Mention that you got a free copy in exchange for an honest review.
- You may not upload the full file anywhere or share the ebook itself. Links are fine. File sharing is not.
Non-commercial use in classrooms / book clubs
You can:
- Use short excerpts (again, a few paragraphs) for discussion or handouts
- Display short readings in class or at a book club
- You can show the cover in slides, handouts, and newsletters.
If you’re planning to photocopy or distribute longer sections (multiple pages or full chapters), ask first.
Fan art & non-commercial fan projects
- You can create fan art, non-commercial fanfic, moodboards, playlists, etc. based on our worlds and characters.
You can share them online as long as:
- You don’t sell them
- You clearly mark them as unofficial / fan-made
- You don’t claim to be affiliated with or endorsed by Silent Partner Press or our imprints.
If you want to sell anything based on our IP (prints, merch, etc.), you need explicit written permission.
Things you must ask permission for
If money is involved, or you’re using large chunks of text, we want to be in the loop.
You must contact us first for:
- Commercial reprints of our text (anthologies, magazines, websites that paywall content, etc.)
- Long excerpts (multiple pages or full chapters) in:
- Textbooks
- Course packs
- Paid newsletters
- Any printed or digital product that’s sold or behind a paywall
- Translations into any language
- Audiobook editions not produced or licensed by us
- Stage plays, scripts, or performances based on our books
- Film / TV / audio drama / game adaptations
- Merchandising based on our covers, characters, titles, or worlds
Any other use where:
- You’re charging money, or
- Our work is a main draw for your project
Email [permissions@silentpartnerpress.com] with details.
What you’re not allowed to do
Without written permission from us, you may not:
Upload or share our ebooks or audiobooks on:
- Torrent sites
- File-sharing platforms
- Private servers or Discords
- “Free ebook” sites
- Copy and post entire chapters or full books on your site or social media
- Strip or alter our names, imprint names, or copyright notices
- Use AI to train models on the full text of our books
- Sell anything that heavily leans on our IP (characters, worlds, titles, logos, cover art) without a written agreement
If you’re not sure if something crosses the line, assume it does and email us first.
How to request permission
When you email [permissions@silentpartnerpress.com], include:
- Your name and contact info
- Which book(s) or materials you want to use (title, author, imprint)
- Exactly what you want to use (pages, chapters, scenes, images, etc.)
- What you’re doing with it Classroom, online article, anthology, translation, adaptation, merch, etc.
- Where it will appear Website, print, platform, region/country
- Whether money is involved Is this paid, monetized, behind a paywall, or purely free?
We’ll read it, ask follow-up questions if needed, and give you a yes/no and any conditions in writing.
Libraries, educators & bookstores
If you’re a library, teacher, or bookseller and you’re confused about any of this, just contact us. We’re not looking to make your life harder.
Tell us:
- Who you are
- How you want to use the work
- Whether it’s for a class, event, display, etc.
We generally try to say “yes” whenever it doesn’t screw us or the author.
Final word
All books and materials under Silent Partner Press and its imprints are copyrighted. We’re not here to hassle reviewers, teachers, or fans doing normal things.
If you’re:
- Reviewing
- Talking about the books
- Using short quotes
- Sharing covers
- Making non-commercial fan stuff
…you’re probably fine.
If you’re:
- Reproducing big chunks
- Making money
- Building a product or adaptation on top of our work
…ask first.
That’s it.
